Welcome To Our Blog!

We are pleased to announce our first baby will be brought into this world around October 28, 2011! This is my first attempt at making a blog, so please bear with me through the process. This seemed like the perfect place to document it all, so here goes nothing!

(Mini) Babymoon One - Glenwood Springs

Want to know the best thing about this post? Aaron finally makes an appearance!!
View from Downtown Glenwood
We had a great time in Glenwood Springs this past weekend. As I mentioned in the last post, we have decided to do a series of "babymoons" this summer.  We hope to get to Aspen, Salida, and Telluride, among a couple other places. The drive down was very pretty, we went from 50s and sunny in Denver, through the snow in the resorts, back to upper 40s, lower 50s in Glenwood Springs. It was a little cool but nice overall when we arrived. We had lunch and walked around in downtown
Glenwood Hotsprings
Glenwood, checked into the hotel, and headed to the hotsprings. I was able to go in the 90 degree pool for a bit which was nice. I mostly spent my time dangling my feet in the hotter (104 degrees) pool while Aaron soaked away. I was kinda jealous, but it still was a very relaxing atmosphere. After the hotsprings, we headed back to the hotel and relaxed for a little bit, then headed down to dinner at the brewery attached to the Hotel Denver (where we stayed).   I pulled out a maternity dress for dinner which my friend Karen gave me to borrow. I know I do not necessarily need maternity clothes yet, but it was so comfy so I could not resist!  Here are some of the pictures from Friday:

Saturday we woke up, grabbed breakfast at a local diner, checked out of the hotel, and headed to do a short hike to Doc Holliday's grave. The weather was pretty gross, but we powered through it anyways! We then headed back to Denver. It was a short trip, but we had a great time checking out the area. Here are a few pictures to round out this post (we do have more pictures but it's kind of a pain to post too many on the blog site):

Second Dr. Appointment (almost 13 weeks)

We had our 2nd doctor's appointment today.  I am 12 weeks and 5 days, so I am nearing the end of the first trimester. The way the doctor described it to me, instead of just 12 weeks in a trimester there are really 13ish depending on how many days there are in a month, etc. And you will still hear that the first trimester is anywhere from 12-14 weeks, so there is no one consensus.  Anyhow, everything looks great at this point and right on target!! We started the appointment trying to hear the heartbeat with the doppler, but he (my regular doctor, who is a female, was called away at the last minute for a delivery) could not find it so he pulled out the ultrasound machine. It was great because we got to visualize the baby and the heart beat again, and we got to measure the crown to rump length as well as the actual heart rate.  The baby has almost tripled in size since our last appointment.  It is now almost 6cm long, and the heart rate has slowed to 156 bpm. After he located the baby on the ultrasound machine, he was able to go back and find the baby with the doppler and we were able to hear the heart beat! It was a really cool experience. He had me put my finger on my neck to measure how much slower my heart rate is compared to the baby's. He is a very nice and knowledgeable doctor and did a great job of answering our questions. It was great to meet him because there is a chance he could deliver the baby if our doctor cannot make it.

He reviewed all my labs from the last appointment, and everything looks good. I am off to a healthy start which is great news! I also have gained almost 2 lbs since the last appointment, which is pretty typical as well. Most women gain 0-5 lbs in the first trimester, so I am right in the middle. I will be heading back for a 3rd appointment in another month.  Here is a picture from today's ultrasound:

Aaron and I are heading to Glenwood Springs for a night this weekend. We are very excited for a night out of town as well as to check out the area. We have heard great things! Our friend is watching Kota for the night which is a nice treat as well. She will have a great time playing with their dog, and it will be a nice break for us (although we love you Kota you just are pretty high maintenance at times)! I do not know if we will actually be able to take a long "babymoon" so we are hoping to do a series of weekend trips around the Colorado area instead. There are so many places we want to check out! We will definitely take lots of pictures and I will post them when we get back.

Baby's First Louisville Gear. Go Cards!

Yep, I just had to pick up the first Cardinals gear for the baby while I was home! I couldn't resist! I cannot wait to try all this on when the baby is born. And it will be just about perfect timing for basketball season when the baby is born. Woohoo!

On a side note, I had a great time in Louisville. I did some shopping with my mom and picked out some maternity clothing which was a blast since we cannot shop together like we used to. I hung out with the family on the farm, we went to Cincinnati for a day to visit my brother, and I surprised Eleanor and Sean at their wedding shower.  They truly were surprised, and it was so great to see all my Louisville friends! Overall, it was a successful trip. I cannot wait to go back in June for Eleanor and Sean's wedding.

Monthly Picture

This was taken on Sunday, 3/27, just a few days after the first appointment.  I am 9 weeks here.  I think you can see a little something starting to show through anyways, but maybe it's because I am really arching my back and pulling my shirt against my belly!

I think I have been pretty lucky this first month of pregnancy.  I am definitley having pregnancy symptoms, but nothing too extreme.  I have had some nausea throughout the day, but have not had to throw up, which is fine by me!

I am going home to Louisville this coming week for a few days.  I am very excited to see friends and family, and to share the good news with my friends who do not know I am pregnant yet.  It is way more fun to tell people in person than having to call them up on the phone! It should be a fun and relaxing few days.
